Any number to the zero power equals 1
Why?
When written out as a fraction, you cancel out the numerator and the denominator, turning them into ones, whenever a number is over a 1 in a fraction, it automatically equals 1.
When a number has a negative exponent, turn it into a fraction with a numerator of 1 and a denominator of whatever your base number is, which is going to have the same exponent as before, only positive.
