DAILY LIFE IN ANCIENT GREECE
Life in ancient Greece was quite different for men and women. Men were engaged in politics and public events, while women were often encouraged to stay in the home. Children spent the most of their time with their mother. Boys at the age of seven were trained in the military and were not allowed to leave the barracks until they turned thirty years old. Girls received their mothers education and training at home.
GOVERNMENT
There was no central government in ancient Greece. People lived in city-states and each one was an independent unit. Each city-state made their own laws, had their own coinage, and had their own way of doing things.
ALEXANDER THE GREAT
Alexander III of Macedon, commonly known as Alexander the Great, was a King of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon and a member of the Argead dynasty. He was important because he was a great conquerer. He set out to conquer most of the world during Ancient Greek times and was successful.
PARTHENON
The Parthenon is a temple located on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. It was a magnificent temple built to hold the statue of the Goddess Athena.
SOCIAL STRUCTURE
- Athens – The Upper Class:most power and highest position in society
- Metics – The Middle Class:were free men but had very little rights compared to the upper class
- Freedmen – The Lower Class:once slaves but were freed and had least rights
- The Slaves- The Lowest Class:had no rights or authority and did not own their own life
POSEIDON
Poseidon was the Greek God of the seas, the horses and the earthquakes. Poseidon was imposing and strong with long, blue hair. His fearsome weapon was the Trident, a three-pronged spear crafted by the inventive Cyclopes, who were gigantic one-eyed brutes. The Cyclops were liberated by the Olympians when the Titans were defeated.
APHRODITE
Aphrodite was the Greek Goddess of love, pleasure and beauty. She was young and beautiful and dressed very elegantly. She also loved wear jewelry. Aphrodite had curled eyelashes and a constant smile on her face.
