EXCESS OF VITAMIN D

  • It is also known as Hypervitaminosis D
  • Excess amounts of vitamin D can cause abnormally high levels of calcium in the blood
  • Can affect bones, tissues, and other organs.
  • This condition can lead to high blood pressure, bone loss, and kidney damage.

CAUSE

  • In most cases, this condition is caused by taking more than the recommended daily value of vitamin D
  • prescribed medications such as thiazide diuretics used to treat high blood pressure

WHO CAN GET THE DISEASE

  • Every one is at risk on getting it
  • In children, vitamin D deficiency causes rickets, where the bones become soft and bend.
  • It's a rare disease but still occurs, especially among African American infants and children.
  • In adults, vitamin D deficiency leads to osteomalacia, causing bone pain and muscle weakness.

SIGN&SYMPTOMS

  • fatigue loss of appetite, weight loss ,excessive thirst, excessive urination,
  • dehydration, constipation irritability, nervousness

TREATMENT

  • Your vitamin D levels must be frequently monitored until they return to normal.
  • lowering the amount of calcium in your diet temporarily.
  • Your doctor may also recommend certain measures to offset the excessive amount of calcium

FACTS

  • You also get vitamin D when your skin is exposed to sunlight.
  • People can become deficient in vitamin D because they don't consume enough or absorb enough from food
  • Some studies suggest that vitamin D may protect against colon cancer
