  • Currency
  • Reliability
  • Authority
  • Purpose/Point of View

currency

  • When was it published?
  • How timely does the info need to be?
  • Was it published near the time of the event?
  • When was the web page last updated?

reliability

  • Peer-reviewed?
  • Who published/source?
  • Does it cite references?
  • Is it general or detailed?

authority

  • Who's the author?
  • What are the author's credentials?
  • Educational, government, corporation?

Purpose/Point of view

  • To inform, persuade, entertain, sell?
  • Does author have vested interest?
  • Is it even-handed?

citing sources

  • If you quote, cite the source.
  • If you paraphrase, cite the source.
  • If it's your own thought or conclusion....
  • In text citation (after quote or paraphrase)
  • References (APA & ASA) or Works Cited (MLA)
