Maria Eva Duarte de Peron

  • Nationality...Argentine
  • B. May 7 1919 D. July 26 1952
  • Started off as a small time Actress and Radio Star... her first play was at the age of 16.

1943- She met Juan Peron, a political military power, and in 1945 he was put into prison by the gov't.
On Oct. 17 Evita rallied thousands of workers to demand his release.
...One week later Evita and Juan Peron married...

POlitical Actions

  • 1945 - help Juan Peron in presidential campaign.
  • Acted as a Secretary of Labor would, supporting high wages and social welfare benefits
  • 1947 - establishes Maria Eva Duarte De Peron Welfare Foundation
  • Actively campaigns for women's suffrage - 1947 women's suffrage is enacted

  • 1951- Eva Peron was going to run for vice president but declined due to poor health and military opposition
  • 26 July 1952 - Eva Peron dies from Cancer. Age 33

Global Impact

  • Set an example for power women in South America, a predominately patriarchal society
  • Role model for lower social classes
  • Her actions reached Spain, France, England, Italy, Switzerland, and Portugaul.
