PRESENTATION OUTLINE
EMA is a non-profit Foundation based in The Hague (Netherlands) and established on 2009 by a group of museum professionals who has worked for many years with the distinguished museologist Kenneth Hudson (1916-1999) on the field of industrial archaeology and museum innovation.
EMA counts on about 80 experts and National Representatives from more than 30 Countries all over Europe and beyond.
EMA runs several awarding schemes for the recognition of excellence in museums:
European Museum Academy Prize, Luigi Micheletti Award, Children in Museums Award and Heritage in Motion.
EUROPEAN MUSEUM ACADEMY PRIZE.
The EMA Prize has been established with the aim of recognising the outstanding results of organisations, researchers and cultural institutions in creating pioneering museums or producing studies and carrying on projects of European relevance which are destined to influence the development of museological discourse at the international level.
LUIGI MICHELETTI AWARD
An Award focused on contemporary history and scientific, industrial and social heritage.
Today the scheme is also open to museum of 20th century history (social, political, military) to reflect the wider scope of the Micheletti Foundation work, with whom the Award is runned in co-operation.
CHILDREN IN MUSEUMS AWARD
The Award is given to the best practice of an exhibition or project dedicated to children under 14 years old. It is organised by EMA in co-operation with Hands On! International.
HERITAGE IN MOTION
An annual multimedia competition for the creators of films, games, apps and websites on themes related to Europe’s heritage,cultural and natural, tangible and intangible.
It was founded jointly by Europa Nostra and EMA. Now it is run by a group of active and enthusiast professionals.
EMA is active on the museum research field, organising workshops, lectures and seminars for museum professionals.
Three courses in Museology under the auspices of EMA:
Executive Master Course in European Museology at the IULM University of Milan (It), Summer School of Museology at the Primorska University of Piran (Si), the Course in Scientific Museography in Barcelona (Sp).
