Christopher Columbus

• One of the first explorers sponsored by spain
• Born in India
• Sailed for trade,land,and riches
• Obstacles were fear,natives,flat world,no maps
• Accomplishments included discover new land,first person to cross the oceans

Juan Ponce De Leon

• Sailed with Christopher Columbus
• Landed with Christopher Columbus in Santa Domingo and chose to stay there 
• Found gold in Puerto Rico
• Discovered Florida
• During a battle with Native Americans he lost his life

Jacques Cartier

• Sponsored by France
• Landed in the Gulf of St.Lawrence within 20 days after setting sail
• Crew became ill and assisted by the Huron Tribe
• Gave Canada its name

John Cabot

• Born in Italy
• Sponsored by England to find a shorter trade route to Asia
• Obstacles were bad weather, lack of maps,  & disagreements among crew. 
• In 1497 during his second voyage he landed on Eastern coast of Canada 
• During his final voyage he and 3 of his ships were lost
