Why there's a silenced DIALOGUE?

  • There's little diversity in power groups.
  • Failure to recognize the opinions of other demographics.
  • Disconnect between power groups and minority population
  • Miscommunication, alienation lack of understanding
  • Power group doesn't recognize intelligence in minorty culture

5 Complex rules of power

  • Issues of power enacted in classrooms
  • Codes established for participation in power
  • Rules reflect the values of power groups
  • Being informed makes acquiring power easier
  • Those with power deny their power, thosoe with little recognize it 

Rules of power and its influence

  • Teachers and decision makers have power of students
  • Established set of rules for everyday life
  • Students in lower status are told their culture in incorrect  
  • Middle class educators force change in lower class students 
  • Power groups think their the norm, and other are wrong

Opposition from minorities

  • "I want the same for everyone esle's children as I want for mine" 
  • Liberal middle class education values leads to the status-quo 
  • This type of instruction will keep the liberal middle class in power
  • Forces outside values on students
  • Spreads negativity about the culture of the minority student

Research and teaching methods

  • Doesn't recognize that people learn and communicate differently.
  • Too opinionated when it comes to education.
  • Promotes a one size fits all method of teaching.

Lisa's suggestion

  • Learn the culture of others 
  • Communicate with parents, ask questions 
  • Acknowledge and accept differences
