PLAINS INDIANS

HOUSING

  • The plains Indians lived in teepees
  • Teepees are made out of buffalo fur

CLIMATE

  • The eastern plains Indians had a lot of rainfall
  • The western plains had a dry climate so they mostly ate buffalo
  • It was easier for the eastern plains to farm because of rainfall

EVENTS

  • Each year the eastern plains spent spring and fall farming in their villages
  • They divided themselves into groups , the had groups for war and peace.

LOCATION

  • The Spanish explorers brought horses to North America
  • The Comanche started riding and raising horses, that's why they where so powerful on horseback

VOCABULARY

  • Nomad- a person who moves around and does not live in one place
  • Travois- made out of two poles and usually pulled by a dog , similar to a sled
  • Lodge- a home that the Plains Indians built using bark , and grass

  • The Comanche were now where we call Wyoming
  • The Comanche had a system of government that fit their personality as nomads
  • The Comanche were furious fighters on horseback
  • The Comanche became one of the most powerful of the plains after being poor
