Published on Sep 10, 2019

This project is to try to inform people about fake news and what Google and Facebook are doing to try to stop it. An example of fake news is how Russia effected the 2016 election. This Is also a project I had to do in a class called Social Media Internet & Web.

WHAT DOES THE ARTICLE HAVE TO DO WITH THIS?

In the Washington Post article' "Facebook, Google take steps to fight fake news" says that Facebook and Google would put pressure on these news sites (Fake news sites). For example, many people heard that the country Russia had to do with the 2016 election. To stop these sites from pasting phony news. They need to cut them at the source. These sites rely on Facebook and Google to get their money (for the ads).

Other "Rumors" THat these Sites Spread

Some rumors that these sites spread were mostly about the 2016 election. That would hurt Hilary Clinton, and Boast Donald Trump. One rumor told that Pope Francis (the leader of the Catholic Church) Said to vote for Trump. This "news" was shared by over 100,000 users. This is false. Another Rumor was that people can vote online. Which is false. There are many problems this could cause. (hacking, data loss, etc.)

Individual Rights???

Some people say that Google/Facebook Should not do anything. They say that we need to try to protect our rights. Also stating that they care about their privacy. Experts have stated that "People don't trust the government to choose what they read. They should not rely on Facebook either" says
Jonathan Zittrain (Expert that works for a group at Harvard University).

In Conclusion

I Conclude that Facebook and Google should be able to Check For fake news because they have a little responsibly for what is on their websites. I also think that it would not be violating our privacy because there are just trying to protect us, from news like the 2016 election.
