EMERGENCY MEDICINE

WHAT IS IT?

  • Emergency Medicine
  • Doctors treat patients that need immediate medical attention.
  • Doctors treat adults, seniors, kids, toddlers, teens. (Everyone)

ER PHYSICIAN RESPONSINILITIES

  • They work with radiologists.
  • Make speedy decisions, otherwise patient can die or their life can be in danger.
  • Tell news and keep the family of the patient updated. Get the back story/medical history of the patient.
  • Prioritize their cases. Give medical attention first to those in more severe danger.
  • Make potential diagnoses, while making treatment decisions.

PATIENT'S PERSEPCTIVE

  • Need to be patient patients. 😂😂😂
  • Have to be understanding that doctor's have other patients.
  • Stay calm, ask any questions they may have about their condition.
  • Remember the doctor is doing his/her best to their ability.
  • Everything is being done to give you the best hospital experience.

CASE 1

CASE 1

  • In this case a cheerleader drank to many energy drinks which caused her to have a cardiac arrest.
  • This cheerleader was found lying on her dorm floor unconscious. Her friends were doing CPR on her.
  • This cheerleader was 19. She was a fit person so this was very unusual.
  • The physician thought she might be on drugs, but the test results were negative for drugs.
  • Her boyfriend and parents both arrived and they had not met.

CASE 1

  • The parents and the physician didn't believe the boyfriend.
  • She had no medical history of surgeries or dieseases.
  • Her blood sugar was 1200. Normal blood sugar 140 after eating and about 70-99 mg/dl fasting blood sugar.
  • Her heart kept stopping. They shocked her, which helped her pulse.
  • In the end they figured out that she had an undiagnosed case of diabetes.

  • In this a case an alive Catfish is stuck in a young man's esophagus. He could not breathe.
  • Dr. Murphy the physician on this case puts a camera through the patients nose.
  • There are toxic barbs on this catfish which are ripping the tissue.
  • An ear, nose, and throat specialist uses forceps to pull the fish out while the patient is sedated.
  • The patient was intoxicated, which caused him to make the decision to go fish bobbing.

  • In this case a young man. Ate a raw egg.
  • This raw egg is stuck right in his proximal esophagus, pushing on his larynx.
  • The patient could not breathe and had no airway.
  • The doctor hit the egg repeatedly, which cracked the egg.
  • Finally, he threw up the egg and started breathing again.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP ?

GUIDELINES/JOBS

  • Must be 14-18 years of age for school credits.
  • Run errands.
  • Greet and assist patients.
  • Some volunteers work in the nursery.
  • Organize files.

OTHER IDEAS

  • Make gift baskets for patients and deliver them.
  • Preform plays/music.
  • Do arts and crafts with the patients.
  • Spread Holiday cheer!
  • Make them food, throw them a party.
