Adequate Work Space

Flexible, allows movement and collaboration
The classroom should be one with adequate work space that allows for movement and collaboration. The layout is essential to have a positive brain based classroom. Concordia Online suggested a circular arrangement of desks vs. traditional rows to allow students to converse.

Balance between comfort and risks

Students are challenged, but not threatened. Students fears are addressed and bullying is not tolerated. Classroom is a positive, welcoming space for all students to grow. Mutual respect amongst all students and teacher.

Stimulate Senses

Color, Music, Art
More than 1 part of the brain is stimulated at a time. All senses are engaged during the learning process in a brain-based classroom.

Emotional Connection

Be encouraging and supporting
The instructor promotes positive feelings and encourages face-to-face interactions to build a connection. This allows students to feel supported.

Immersive Experience

Hands on, role play, relevant, active learning
Hands on classroom activities that allows students to experience first hand what they are learning about. Examples of this are field trips, role playing, visual arts, etc...
