  • English philosopher
  • Believed people had natural rights
  • He made this idea in 1688
  • He didn't believe in Absolute Monarchy
  • Locke's idea were an influence to the declaration of independance

MONTESQUIEU

  • French philosopher
  • Had his idea in 1748
  • Wrote The Spirit of Laws
  • Talk about government through out history
  • The three branches in our government came from his ideas

  • French

  • Battled inequality, injustice, and superstition
  • The things he thought were wrong we think are wrong

  • Editor of the encyclopedia
  • Edited it in 1751
  • His purpose was to change the general thinking
  • We still use the encyclopedia

  • Believed in natural innocence
  • He thought it was corrupted by society
  • 1762 wrote The Social Contract
  • His ideas affected the way we think of society

  • Argued the free market should refulate activity
  • Tried to show how certain things were linked to supply and demand
  • Shaped economy in 1800s and 1900s
