The History of the Camera
By Maya Weiss
Physical Science and Design Period 4

Joseph Niepce developed the camera obscura in 1814 and took the first photo with it. It took 8 hours of light exposure to make a picture, and the picture faded with time.

Computer Engineering was the most important to the development of this product because it allowed the technology to advance and allow it to take better pictures, faster. Also, they develop peripheral computing devices like digital cameras.

Evolution of the Camera

DAGUERREOTYPE CAMERA

  • Invented by Louis-Jacques-Mande Daguerre in 1839
  • Used mainly for portraits
  • a polished copper plate upon which an image was directly exposed
  • small enough to hold in the hand or carry in the pocket

FIRST CAMERA WITH FILM: THE KODAK

  • Invented by John Eastman in 1888
  • It was loaded with a film for 100 exposures and cost $25.
  • Meant for amateur photographers
  • "You press the button, we do the rest."
  • Brownie Box Camera

35MM FILM CAMERA

  • invented by Oskar Barnack and Ernst Leitz around 1924
  • prototype built around 1913
  • 35mm film already invented
  • compact
  • expensive

CONTINUED

FIRST POLAROID CAMERA

  • Invented by Edwin Land in 1947
  • Originally known as the Land Camera
  • In 1963, Polacolor film was made
  • Land inspired Steve Jobs
  • Instant camera

DIGITAL CAMERAS

  • Invented by an engineer at Eastman Kodak named Steve Sasson in 1975
  • 8 pounds
  • All Electronic
  • Never meant to be mass produced
  • Took 23 seconds to take a photo

camera phones

  • In 1997 Philippe Kahn inserted the first camera into a Motorola Startac
  • The first camera phone sold was by Samsung and released it was released in South Korea in 2000 called the SCH-V200
  • Stall the progress of cameras
  • Slim and attractive

Global And Enviromental Impact

  • Cameras allow people to capture a specific moment in time although they might be more cautious of the photo then actually being in the moment.
  • Digital cameras save people money because you don't have to pay for developing film.
  • Going digital can save photographers a lot of space.

Why are most products innovated?

Most products are innovated because the product needs to meet the needs and wants of the customers. Also, science and technology is always changing and discovering new things and the buyers always want the newest things.

Choose one product that you would like to innovate. Why did you choose this product? What change(s) would you make to it?

I would innovate Expo markers because they smell really bad. I would try to make them smell less and also make them last longer and have more colors.
