HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY

HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY:IS IT RELIABLE?

HOW DOES HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY WORK?

  • Water is needed to run a hydroelectric power-generating unit.
  • The water is held behind a dam, forming an artificial lake, or reservoir.
  • Water is The force of the water being released from the reservoir through the dam spins the blades of a giant turbine.

HOW COULD HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY BE USED TODAY?

  • About 7% of the energy produced in the United States is by way of hydroelectric plants.Worldwide about 19%.
  • Basically, a hydroelectric plant operates by flowing or falling water which turns blades attached to a turbine.
  • These in turn are hooked to a generator which produces electricity.
  • This electricity is sent through a transformer which strengthens it and transmits it to homes and businesses.

HOW DOES HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY EFFECT THE ENVIRONMENT?

  • Loss of wildlife habitat and wetland
  • Gain in electricity.
  • Construction ruins part of the land around the water

HOW COULD THIS ENERGY BE USED

  • To dam a river
  • To get electricity
  • To kill animals in the water

IS HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY ACCEPTED AND WHY?

  • Yes because it is a renewable transformation of energy
  • It doesn't pollute the environment

POS. AND NEG. THINGS ABOUT HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY

  • Good things:Renewable energy source
  • It is reliable
  • It generate a huge amount of power
  • Used for flood control
  • Bad things:holds back rich sediment
