  • They use carbon dioxide and sunlight energy to make their own food

CONSUMER

  • Definition,a person or thing that consumes
  • Cannot make their own food
  • There are 3 types of consumers

HERBIVORES

  • Definition, an animal that feeds on grass and other plants
  • In a food chain they are called the primary consumer
  • Only eats plants

CARNIVORES

  • Definition, an animal that eats flesh
  • There are about 250 species of carnivores
  • Some carnivores form social groups

OMNIVORES

  • Definition,an organism that eats both plants and animals
  • Omnivores can often adapt well to changes by adjusting their diet
  • Most birds are omnivores

DECOMPOSERS

  • Definition,an organism that breaks down the cells of dead plants and animals
  • Most common decomposers are bacteria,worms,slugs,snails,and fungi
  • Decomposers can be referred to as nature's recyclers

FOOD CHAIN

  • Definition,a small animal is food for a larger animal which in turn is the food for an even larger animal
