Preamble: brief introduction to a speech
Preamble to the Constitution that starts out “We the People of the US, in Order to form a more perfect Union.. do ordain and establish this Constitution.”

Congress: the nation’s lawmaking body, made up of 2 houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Legislative branch created by Constitution.

Elastic Clause: a statement in the US Constitution granting Congress the power to pass laws necessary and proper for carrying out the enumerated list of powers.
The part of the Constitution that permits Congress to make any laws “necessary and proper” to carrying out its powers.

Chief Executive: the president deciding how the laws of the US are to be enforced and chooses officials to run the Executive Branch.
They enforce laws and is commander in chief of the army.

Federal Judiciary: one of the 3 co-equal branches of the federal government of the US organized under the US Constitution and laws of the federal government.
Federal court system, consisting of the Supreme Court and lower federal courts.

Judicial Review: power of the US Supreme Court to review laws and actions from Congress and the President to determine whether they are constitutional.

Federalism: system of government in which includes such states share power with a national government.
Division of power between the federal and state government.

Supremacy Clause: constitutional clause affirming that the Constitution and federal laws are the supreme law of the land.
Clause in the US Constitutions Article VI, stating that all laws made furthering the Constitution and all treaties made under authority of the US, “supreme las of the land”.
