Feedback can be given in many ways:

  • in writing
  • in 1:1 conferences
  • in small groups
  • as a whole class
  • using technology like Google Docs comments, voice comments on Voxer or Google hangouts

How can good feedback improve learning?

learning improves when Students

  • know what they are doing well
  • know where they need to improve
  • goals can be set based on the feedback provided that can be tracked
  • strategies are given to aid in improvement
  • reflection is done to continually monitor progress on particular skills
  • Students are taught to track progress

Students can track feedback by

  • making a section in the notebook where they write all feedback
  • Electronically catalog their feedback and make action plans

Do you have any questions?

Remember:

  • Specific to the task
  • balance between positive and critical
  • avoid using vague, comments like "this is good"
  • Offer strategies where appropriate
  • Notice improvement where appropriate
  • Don't repeat the same comment all over the assignment, be tactful with how much you provide... Think Goldilocks

How can you take it to the next level?
