PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The term emotion is derived from the latin verb "emoverse" meaning "to stir-up" or to move". it connotes a strirred-up bodily state.
Emotions are effective states involving a high level of activation, visceral changes and strong feelings.
Emotions are too numerous and are of so complex a nature that they defy one simple categorizing. One circumstances provoking an individual to be angry may cause him to be afraid and to take flight.
The feeling aspect of emotion is, in sense, the most important phase of the behavior. Since feelings are effective states which are very subjective only the person experiencing the emotion may verify it, it has been sometimes defined in terms of physiological changes which can be observed scientifically.
Moods are mild emotions which last longer and are more temporary in nature, one who is irritable (mood) is more predisposed to anger. Temperament is an emotional level characteristic of a person, one may be usually cheerful or grouchy. Preferences are the mildest form of affective states and concern dislikes and likes.
