  • Born July 26, 1928 (currently 85)
  • Lived through the time period of WWII till today
  • Has shot some of the most iconic photos in history
  • Has photographed many famous people from previous generation
  • Developed his vision during post-war rise of documentary photojournalism
Witness of history through the lens of his camera
People include marilyn monroe, jackie kennedy, richard nixon & nikita kruschev

Edward - (at that time, director of the department of photography at the museum of modern art) impressed by his work and arranged his first commercial shoot

Roy - hired him to work as documentary photographer for the Standard Oil Company

Robert - (met him while doing military service in Paris) invited him to join Magnum Photos in 1953, immediately after completing his two years in the army
(Erwitt is a former 3-year president of the company at this time)

  • One of the longest spanning photography careers (+50 years)
  • Was in the army
  • Has been married 4 times, currently living in NY with his family
  • Lived all over the world
Born in Paris, raised in Italy and France; emigrated to US with family; was a teenager living in Hollywood, LA, then New York; later traveled in France and Italy with his camera; drafted for military service in Germany and France, currently lives in New York

Has also been to other places around the world for work with his camera
