Born July 26, 1928 (currently 85)
Lived through the time period of WWII till today
Has shot some of the most iconic photos in history
Has photographed many famous people from previous generation
Developed his vision during post-war rise of documentary photojournalism

Witness of history through the lens of his camera
People include marilyn monroe, jackie kennedy, richard nixon & nikita kruschev

HE CAME ACROSS, AND WAS TAKEN UNDER THE WING OF..

Edward Steichen
Roy Stryker
Robert Capa

Edward - (at that time, director of the department of photography at the museum of modern art) impressed by his work and arranged his first commercial shoot

Roy - hired him to work as documentary photographer for the Standard Oil Company

Robert - (met him while doing military service in Paris) invited him to join Magnum Photos in 1953, immediately after completing his two years in the army
(Erwitt is a former 3-year president of the company at this time)

One of the longest spanning photography careers (+50 years)
Was in the army
Has been married 4 times, currently living in NY with his family
Lived all over the world

Born in Paris, raised in Italy and France; emigrated to US with family; was a teenager living in Hollywood, LA, then New York; later traveled in France and Italy with his camera; drafted for military service in Germany and France, currently lives in New York

Has also been to other places around the world for work with his camera
