POINT

  • Most basic element of design
  • Has position, but no dimension
  • Can be described by coordinates on a plane
  • Used to indicate location

LINE

  • Has only a length dimension
  • Can be used to : define boundry
  • Indicate volume, create perspective
  • Create textures & depth, suggest movement
  • Imply emotion

TYPES

  • Verticle- represents dignity, formality, stability, & strength
  • Horizontal- reprsents calm, peace, & relaxation
  • Diagonal- represents action, activity, & movement
  • Curved- represents freedom, the natural, soothing feeling

COLOR

  • Hue - base color
  • Value - lightness or darkness
  • Saturation - purity or intensity
  • Color has an immediate profound effect on design

COLOR TEMPERATURE

  • Cool - blues, purples, greens
  • Warm - reds, oranges, yellows

SHAPE

  • A 2D area enclosed by lines or curves
  • Geometric shapes - squares, circles, triangles, ect..
  • Mechanical - smiple shapes
  • Organic - natural

FORM

  • A 3D volume or solid
  • Often implied on a 2D surface by careful use of value

SPACE

  • Area between or around an image
  • The implied depth of an image
  • Positive - the image
  • Negative - the space behind the image
  • Open & uncluttered or cramped & busy
