PRESENTATION OUTLINE

PROPORTION AND SCALE

  • Scale is the size of one object in relation to the other objects in a design or artwork.
  • Proportion refers to the size of the parts of an object in relationship to other parts of the same object.

EMPHASIS

  • is defined as an area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point.

RHYTHM

  • rhythm and can be achieved by repeating any of the elements of design (line, colour, texture and pattern, light, and scale and proportion) or other design concepts in an organized and regular way.

UNITY

  • The idea behind the design component unity is to create elements that support each other and all work together toward a common goal.

MOVEMENT

  • The use of lines, colors, values, textures, forms and space to carry or direct the eye of the viewer from one part of the design or picture to other is called movement.

BALANCE

  • Balance is the distribution of the visual weight of objects, colors, texture, and space.

VARIETY

  • Unity in an artwork creates a sense of harmony and wholeness, by using similar elements within the composition and placing them in a way that brings them all together.

HARMONY

  • Harmony can be described as sameness, the belonging of one thing with another.

LINE

  • may be two-or three-dimensional, descriptive, implied, or abstract.

COLOR

  • Color is the element of art that is produced when light, striking an object, is reflected back to the eye.

SHAPE

  • Shape is a two dimesional area confined by a actual line or implied line (an edge for example).

FORM

  • The visual components of color, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value.

VALUE

  • Value, also sometimes referred to as tone, is the relative lightness and darkness of an object.

SPACE

  • Space. Space, or depth, is the eponymous property of our 3-dimensional world.

TEXTURES

  • Texture refers to the surface quality in a work of art. We associate textures with the way that things look or feel.

PATTERN

  • Repetition refers to one object or shape repeated; pattern is a combination of elements or shapes repeated in a recurring and regular arrangement; rhythm--is a combination of elements repeated, but with variations. Repetition, pattern, and rhythm in a Buddhist mandala.
