NONMETALS

  • Have no metallic properties
  • One of the two most common elements in your body-phosphorus and sulfur
  • Poor conductors of electricity and thermal energy
  • They are good insulators

NITROGEN

  • Nitrogen is important to the chemical industry. It is used to make fertilisers, nitric acid, nylon, dyes and explosives. To make these products, nitrogen must react with hydrogen to produce ammonia. This is done by the Haber process.

METALS

  • Element that is generally shiny
  • Good conductor of electricity and thermal energy
  • They have good luster

GOLD

  • Gold is used for coins
  • Gold is used for jewelry
  • Gold is used for gold medals in events

METALLOIDS

METALLOIDS

  • Have both chemical and physical properties
  • Metalloids act as semiconductors
  • They are located to the right of the post-transition metals and to the left of the non-metals on the periodic table

SILICON

  • Used for making semiconductors for computers
  • Make up sand compound
  • Make up clay compound
