WHAT IS A CIRCUIT: VOCAB

  • Load, path(wire), electromotive force: battery
  • Pathway is a circuit:
  • Grab a lightbulb, 2 wires and a bulb holder, battery
  • Make the lightbulb light----all the ways
  • What did you have to have? Required? battery/pathway

OPEN & CLOSED CIRCUITS

  • Open: when its opened, no consistant path from one end to other
  • No pathway, no flow, no light bulb will light
  • Closed path, closed circle p, closed circuit
  • Electromotive force: continuous path from one end to another of battery

CONDUCTORS & INSULATORS ACTIVITY

  • Materials in classroom, or what used for magnets, kids start testing
  • Do as class/center.... Make a cicuit it's open...between the 2 brads
  • Air is insulating so nothing can travel through the 2 brads
  • If we lay material across them we can find out if it is a cond or insulator

  • Materials that electrons can easily pass through
  • Move within
  • Examples: copper, silver, gold, aluminum
  • Most metals

SERIES CIRCUIT

  • Electromotive force and all theparts are connected in one contineous path
  • All lightbulbs lit2li
  • Open circuit add another light bulb....what happens
  • Brightness dimmer
  • Go through filament: breaks opens circuit, break... No current flow, opens circuit

PARALLEL CIRCUIT

  • Parallel series: one complete series and another series adding on as well in its own
  • Another parallel circuit, can add one more
  • What happens to lightbulb 3 Does it affect other two....no
  • Doesnt go through all loads: some goes through current, current doesnt go thriugh all
