WHERE IS EL SALVADOR LOCATED?

CENTRAL AMERICA, BETWEEN HONDURAS AND GUATEMALA

HISTORY

  • El Salvador was first inhabited by the Paleo Indians
  • They had a civil war from 1980 to 1992
  • In recent years there have been many gangs and high crime

CULTURE

  • Many people that live there are half European and half Indian
  • Men do the work and the wife stays home
  • They have many greetings. One is that instead of shaking hand they pat each other on the forearm or the shoulder
  • Gift giving- birthdays, Christmas, New Years, and also religious events
  • Dining- it is rude to leave right after dinner, so they say that you have to stay at least an hour after to converse

  • Soups and salads are very popular
  • They have many, many deserts
  • Drinks- many teenagers drink soft drinks. A popular one is Kolachampan, which is soda with sugar cane flavor
  • They have many meals that involve bread
  • Their tortillas are larger and thicker than Mexican tortillas

LANGUAGES

SPANISH IS THE MAIN LANGUAGE. THE LOCAL LANGUAGE IS CALLED CALICHE
