NOELL KEMPFF MERCADO NATIONAL PARK

  • Located in Bolivia in the Amazon Basin
  • Park contaions evolutionary history from the Precambrian period
  • Many globally endangered animals live in the park
  • The forests in the park are humid, not moist like most
  • The park is very diverse and is split into 5 different ecosystems

COCOS ISLAND NATIONAL PARK

  • Located near Pacific Coast of Costa Rica
  • Rated one of the best places to view big pelagic species
  • The only island in the tropical Eastern Pacific with a tropical Rainforest
  • 87 different species of birds have been recorded on the island
  • Home to at least 70 different vascular plants

GALAPAGOS iSLANDS

  • 19 islands situated in the Pacific Ocean, extrmely isolated
  • The Galápagos are the 'melting pot' of marine species
  • Has been called a "living museum and showcase of evolution"
  • Ongoing seismic and volcanic activity
  • Unusual animal life has developed due to isolation

CANAIMA nATIONAL PARK

  • Located in South-eastern Venezuela
  • Home to world's tallest waterfall
  • The park is the source of 60% of Venezuela's energy
  • A portion of the park is inhabitated by the indigenous Pemòn people

WHALE SANCTUARY OF eL VIZCAINO

  • Located in the peninsula of Baja California
  • Consists of two lagoons and surrounded by wetlands
  • The lagoons are home to 4 endangered species of turtles
  • 16 other threatened species can be found in the coastal zone
  • The coastal lagoons are important reproduction sites to many animals
