IGUAZU NATIONAL PARK

  • Located in Misiones Province in the Northeastern tip of Argentina
  • The semicircular waterfall at the heart of this site is 80 m high and 2,700 m in diameter
  • The surrounding subtropical rainforest has over 2,000 species of vascular plants
  • This site is important because it has some of the world's most spectacular waterfalls

LOS GLACIARES NATIONAL PARK

  • Located in the Southwest of Santa Cruz Province in the Argentine part of Patagonia
  • The Los Glaciares National Park is an area with rugged, towering mountains and many glacial lakes
  • At its farthest end, three glaciers meet to dump their effluvia into the milky grey glacial water
  • I think it is important because of its exceptional natural beauty
  • Los Glaciers contains some of the few glaciers in the world that are actually advancing

CHURCHES OF CHILOÉ

  • Located off the coast of Chile
  • They are 70 churches built within the framework of a “Circular Mission”
  • They are unique examples of wooden architecture in Latin America
  • They bear witness to a successful fusion of indigenous and European culture
  • It is important because it shows ancient architecture and religious values

MALPELO FAUNA AND FLORA SANCTUARY

  • Located around 506 km off the coast of Colombia
  • The site includes Malpelo island and the surrounding marine environment
  • This marine park is the largest no-fishing zone in the Eastern Tropical Pacific
  • Important because it provides habitats for internationally threatened marine species
  • Major source of nutrients resulting in large aggregations of marine biodiversity.

TOWER OF HERCULES

  • Located at the entrance of La Coruña harbour in north-western Spain
  • The Tower of Hercules has served as a lighthouse and landmark since the late 1st century A.D.
  • Only fully preserved Roman lighthouse that is still used for maritime signaling
  • It is important because of its historical significance during the Roman Empire
