WHY WERE PYRAMIDS BUILT?

Pyramids are part of Egyptian culture. When a Pharaoh dies, they turn the pharaoh into a mummy, and then they bury the mummy in the pyramid.

The pyramid was built when the pharaoh was still alive, so the tomb and pyramid would be finished by the time the pharaoh was dead. Pyramids were not just built for pharaoh though, they were built for their queens and kings, except much smaller.

Pyramids also had to do with religion. Ancient Egyptians believed that the after life was better than living. Therefore, they put all of the pharaohs furniture, food , belongings, pets, and sometimes even wives into the tomb with them, so they would have a happy afterlife.

Scientists thought it was almost impossible that the Ancient Egyptians could have built the pyramids, but a recent study has shown that there was a smart way to transport the heavy limestone bricks to the building site.

Ancient Egyptians used a sled to take the bricks to the pyramid, but wouldn’t friction build up against the sled making it heavier? Yes. The Ancient Egyptians put water on the sand in front of the sled, so there would be less friction, making it lighter.

The slaves did NOT build the pyramids. That was the peasants job, a peasant is a farmer or a construction worker.
