PRESENTATION OUTLINE

EFFECTS

  • Glaciers have shruk
  • plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner.
  • accelerated sea level rise
  • longer more intense heat waves.

Glaciers shrinking
Climate change has shrunk glaciers between 30 and 50 percent and could melt many of them away altogether in coming years.

The loss of the ice cap has caused global warming to accelerate

Melting glaciers and land based ice sheets also contribute to rising sea levels, threatening low-lying areas around the globe with beach erosion, coastal flooding, and the contamination of fresh water.

The first comprehensive assessment of the extinction risk from global warming found that more than 1 million species could be obliterated by 2050 if the current trajectory continues.
