ORIGINS

  • Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19th, 1808
  • He originated in Boston, but later moved to Richmond, Virginia
  • Both his parents were professional actors and died when he was 3.

OCCUPATION:
Edgar became an American writer, critic, poet, and editor.
He was the first person to use the term "short story".
He authorized mystery and horror stories, and created poems.

LATER EXPERIENCES

  • He was forced to leave university because of debt
  • Edgar married his thirteen-year-old cousin
  • She later died of tuberculosis at the age of twenty

  • Poe was considered the "Father of the Detective Story"
  • He created C. Auguste Dupin, a dectective known for his analytical genius
  • His story "The Raven" gave him a household name
