According to a 2001 NIDA-funded study, 5.2% of 8th-graders had tried ecstasy; 8% of 10th-graders had tried the drug; and 11.7% of 12th-graders.
Ecstasy is known as the "Love Drug"

ECSTASY

WHAT ECSTASY IS

  • Synthetic drug
  • It is a stimulant
  • Known as MDA
Synthetic drug- drug created by spaying natural herbs with synthetic chemicals

Stimulant- makes you more active, jittery, increases the rate of nervous system

Depressant- it lowers the rate of the nervous system

MDA- 3,4 methylendioxymethamphetamine

  • X, E, or XTC
  • Molly
  • Love drug
  • Scooby snacks
  • Happy Pill
Why do they have nicknames/street names?

It's generally so the police won't know what you're talking about

WHAT ECSTASY LOOKS LIKE

  • Small pill
  • Comes in many colors
  • Branded
  • Chalky texture
A small pill that comes in many colors like a rainbow. It is branded with many different shapes like the nike swoosh on your shoe. It has a chalk like texture to it also.

HOW IT IS TAKEN

  • Popped
  • Snorted
Many people take ecstasy by "popping" which is swallowing the pill whole like when you take a normal pill.

They also take it by crushing the ecstasy pill and snorting it up their nose with a paper like straw, dollar bills, or a pen.

WHAT IT FEELS LIKE?

  • Pleasure
  • Relaxed
  • Hyper and full of energy
People who take ecstasy say they feel amazing. They usually feel pleasured, relaxed, hyper, and full of tons of energy.

Ecstasy makes feeling more intense causing people to feel good or and can result in something bad. Your body relaxes making a person feel relaxed. Your heart rate increases giving that hyper and full of energy feeling.

WHY DO PEOPLE TAKE IT?

  • High last 3-4 hours
  • Big rush of serotinn
  • "Feels good"
Serotonin is a chemical substance found in the digestive tract, the central nervous system, blood platelets and the pineal gland (deep at the center of the brain)

SHORT TERM EFFECTS

  • Sweating
  • Chills
  • Headaches
  • Blurred vision
  • Nausea
Other short term effects are

Teeth clenching
Muscle cramping
Faintness
Impaired judgment

Dehydration and increased heart rate

LONG- TERM EFFECTS

  • Brain damage
  • Depression & anxiety
  • Kidney,Liver,and cardiovascular failure
  • Death
Damages to the brain causes you to lose memory,thought,sleep, you're unable to learn, and effects your emotion

Kidney and liver damage is caused by dehydration

Heart failure is caused by dehydration and exhaustion by the drug

Ecstasy causes you to not crave food, water, and go to sleep which may lead you to dehydration and exhaustion.

Addiction recovery groups are groups of people who want to overcome drug addiction.

  • German pharmacy company
  • Used to control bleeding from wounds
  • Used to help victims of trauma
  • Used to help couples with problems
was developed by a German pharmaceutical company called E. Merck in the first decade of the 20th century

By the mid 1970s ecstasy was used to help victims of trauma, as well as couples having problems.
