ECOSYSTEMS

  • a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.
  • And this is how it works😝

HOW ITS CONNECTED

  • Everything in the natural world is connected. An ecosystem is a community of living and non-living things that work together. Ecosystems have no particular size. An ecosystem can be as large as a desert or a lake or as small as a tree or a puddle.
  • If you have a terrarium, that is an artificial ecosystem. The water, water temperature, plants, animals, air, light and soil all work together. If there isn't enough light or water or if the soil doesn't have the right nutrients, the plants will die. If the plants die, animals that depend on them will die. If the animals that depend on the plants die, any animals that depend on those animals will die. Ecosystems in nature work the same way. All

PARYS OF THE ECOSYSTEMS

  • What are the major parts of an ecosystem? An ecosystem includes soil, atmosphere, heat and light from the sun, water and living organisms.

Untitled Slide

  • An ecosystem is a community of living organisms in conjunction with the nonliving components of their environment (things like air, water and mineral soil), interacting as a system.[2] These biotic and abiotic components are regarded as linked together through nutrient cycles and energy flows.[3] As ecosystems are defined by the network of interactions among organisms, and between organisms and their environment,[4] they can be of any size but usually encompass specific, limited spaces[5] (although some scientists say that the entire planet is an ecosystem).[6]

ABOUT THE ENERGY PYRIMID

  • The energy pyramid
  • An energy pyramid is a graphical model of energy flow in a community. The different levels represent different groups of organisms that might compose a food chain. From the bottom-up, they are as foll

FOOD CHAINS

  • Plants are called producers. This is because they produce their own food! They do this by using light energy from the Sun, carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil to produce food - in the form of glucouse/sugar. The process is called photosynthesis. Click on the image below to learn about photosynthesis.

FOOD WEB

  • A food web consists of all the food chains in a single ecosystem. Each living thing in an ecosystem is part of multiple food chains. Each food chain is one possible path that energy and nutrients may take as they move through the ecosystem. All of the interconnected and overlapping food chains in an ecosystem make up a food web.

  • They have decomposers
  • They have consumers

PRODUCERS

  • A producer is an plant or something
  • That produce food and others.

DECOMPOSERS

  • A decomposer is a a thing that breaks down
  • Other dead bodies

CONSUMERS

  • Animals are called consumers. This is because they cannot make their own food, so they need to consume (eat) plants and/or animals.

HERBIVORES

Animals that eat only plants.

OMNIVORES

  • Animals that eat both animals AND plants. Humans are also omnivores!
