PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Biodiversity:
The different forms of life of the world, habitat, or ecosystem
Terrain:
Physical features of a land area
Ecology:
Study of living and their surroundings
Biology:
Study of all living things
Ecosystem:
All of the living and nonliving things in an environment
Habitat:
The natural home/
environment of an organism
Niche:
Job or activity for a plant or animal
Biome:
A big community of flora and fauna living in large habitat
5 Major Biome's:
Aquatic
Grassland
Desert
Tundra
Forest
Biotic:
All
living things in the world, like plants and animals
Abiotic:
All
Non-Living things in the world, like sunlight, wind, and precipitation
Photosynthesis:
The process in which plants use water, sunlight, and CO2 to create food/energy for themselves
Organism:
A living thing that can function on its own
Microorga-nism:
A very small form of life. Organisms that can't be seen by the naked eye
Heterotrophs:
Organism that takes its nutrition from different organic things. Can't make food on their own. Consumers.
Autotrophs:
Organisms that form nutritional organic from inorganic things. The beginning of a simple food chain. Also known as producers. Organisms that make their own food.
Scavengers:
Animals that eat dead animals, dead plants, and waste/garbage
Decomposers:
Scavengers break down dead plants and animals.
Predator:
Animals that, by nature,
hunt other animals
Prey:
Animals that are hunted by a different food
Omnivore:
Animals that eats plants and animals
Carnivore:
Animals that only eat meat
Herbivore:
Animals that only eat plants
Food Chain:
The system that shows how different things depend something in order to survive. Describes how different plants and animals rely on each other for energy
Biosphere:
The parts of Earth that house living organisms. Part of the Earth where life exists.
Community:
A group of many species that are in the same location
Population:
Groups of things that are the same species and are living in the same location
Generalist:
Things that are able to live in multiple different environments and eat a variety of foods
Specialist:
Things that are only able to live in a small amount of different evironments and limited food supply
Tundra:
Cold and treeless, usually lowland areas, northern region/artic
