  • No currency was needed.
  • The economy's power was measured in labor force, possession of lands, and possession of state herds.
  • Labor was the primary currency of the Inca economy.

Trade

  • The Incas traded with many tribes.
  • They traded squash, potatoes, and fruit.
  • The lower valleys provided potatoes, maize, manioc, squash, beans, chili peppers, peanuts, and cotton.
  • The hills above provided, white potatoes, cereal grains, medicine, feathers, and animal skins.
  • Their favorite thing to trade was gold.
