PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ECOLOGY

BY: CASSIDY HARDIN

SPECIALIST

  • Can only thrive in a narrow range of environemtnal
  • conditions or has a limited diet.
  • A panda bear is a good example of a specialist
  • because it only eats bamboo.

GENERALIST

  • Can thrive in a wide variety of environment conditions
  • and use a variety of resources.
  • Humans are a good example of generalist because
  • we can survive all over the world and eat almost
  • anything.

CONFORMER

  • Organisms whose internal conditions are controlled
  • primarily by environmental conditions.
  • A starfish is an example of a conformer because
  • it is limited to marine water and its tissues have the
  • same salinity as sea water.

REGULATOR

  • Organisms that can regulate their internal
  • environments in response to environmental changes.
  • Horses are regulators because mammals are able
  • to control their internal temperautes at a very
  • constant level.

MUTUALISM

  • Where both species involved benefit from the
  • interaction.
  • Clown fish and anemone are example of mutualism
  • because the clown fish feed on potentially
  • harmful invertebrates that live on the anemone.

PARASITISM

  • Where on species benefits from harming
  • but not killing the other species.
  • Mosquitoes and humans show parasitism
  • because the mosquito drinks the humans
  • blood.

COMMENALISM

  • Where one species benefits, but the other
  • is unaffected by the interaction.
  • A remora and a zebra shark represent
  • commensalism because the remora is carried
  • along by the shark and the shark is indifferent.

PREDATION

  • When species get food by eating other
  • organisms.
  • The bear survives by hunting and capturing
  • the fish for food.

COMPETITION

  • It is when more than one organism uses
  • a resource at the same time.
  • Hyenas and lions both use the same hunting
  • land and they fight over the animals in that
  • space which makes them compete each other.
