WHAT IS EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE?

  • A disease of humans and other primates caused by the Ebola virus
  • Symptoms start two days to three weeks after contracting the virus
  • Including fever, sore throat, muscle pain, and headaches
  • Causes decreased functioning of the liver and kidneys and bleeding
  • High mortality rate

POSSIBLE WAYS TO TRANSMISSION

  • Contact with an infected animal's body fluids (initially)
  • Direct contact with blood or bodily fluids from an infected person
  • Contact with contaminated medical equipment
  • Semen of survivors (Infectious for up to 50 days)
  • Oral exposure and Conjunctiva exposure

  • Decreasing the spread of disease from infected animals to humans
  • Properly cooking meat
  • Wearing protective clothing when handling meat
  • Wearing protective clothing
  • Washing hands
