WHAT IS EBOLA?

  • Ebola is a disease that is deadly.
  • Transmitted by animals and spread from human to human contact.
  • The virus enters the body through contact with blood, body fluids & other contact with contaminants

WHERE DID IT COME FROM?

  • No one knows for sure where Ebola came from.
  • Some experts say bats found in West Africa are the carriers of the virus.
  • Some say that the virus came from infected monkeys.
  • The disease is transferred to humans when 'bush meat' is eaten or touched.

EBOLA FACTS

  • Thousands of people have died in Africa because of Ebola.
  • People who are infected with Ebola must be kept away from others to stop the spread of the disease.
  • Ebola gets its name from the Ebola River in the Republic of Congo.
  • Symptoms are fever, headache, joint and muscles, weakness, bleeding in the body and sore throat.
  • It was first seen in 1976 in a village on the river.
