The native Americans living in the eastern woodlands used deer skins as clothing to keep them warm in the winter. To make clothing out if the deerskin they would stretch it out and then cure it. There are many different ways that deer skins can be made. Different tribes did different thinks. Some would soak them in water mixed with ash. Others simply set it in the sun.
Stitching Deer Skin To make the deer skin into something that can be worn the native Americans they would have to stitch different patches of skins together. Usually they would use a very sharp and tiny animal bone to poke little holes where they wanted to stitch. After the holes were made they would then use thin strips of skin and weave it through the holes to make clothing. They would tie the ends in knots to make sure it doesn't fall apart.
