WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT PLATES

-CONVERGENT PLATES, DIVERGENT PLATES AND TRANSFORM.

DIVERGENT PLATES

  • A Divergent Plate also known as a divergent boundary is when two plates move in the opposite directions or moving away from each other. The affect that the Divergent plates cause is that is creates a crack in the ocean floor and magma pours out from the mantle filling the crack that the plates have caused forming a high ridge which is called a mis-ocean ridge. The magma also spreads outwards forming the ocean floors and new oceanic crust.

CONVERGENT PLATES

  • Convergent plates or (destructive plate boundary) is when two plates or more come crashing together and colliding. The impact that convergent plates cause are low, they can create earthquakes however they are less likely to create a natural disaster compared to divergent plates and transform. Convergent plates also create mountain ranges and volcanoes. These natural disasters can create much destruction and can effect the way people live their lives.

TRANSFORM BOUNDARY'S

  • Transform boundary's are when plates pass each other without disturbing or destroying any lithosphere boundary's. The effect that Transform boundary's create is enormous they can cause earthquakes, tsunamis and land form creations. The effect that these natural disasters can cause is unexplainable, the disasters and deaths that these events can cause are extremely high.

WHERE DO MOST EARTHQUAKES HAPPEN

  • Earthquakes will predominantly occur where fault lines are located. There are eleven major fault lines. And many small fault lines. Fault lines cause tsunamis by earthquakes, they are caused only if the magnitude of the earthquake is higher or stronger than 7.5 which causes much destruction. In the future it is highly evidential that there will be stronger and higher magnitude earthquakes where fault lines are located or where the country is located between two plates or on a edge of a plate. It would be safer to live off a fault line and to live in the epi-centre of a plate. It is extremely safe to live in the middle of a plate because it won't cause as much damage or danger to the environment or human race.

SAN NICOLO EARTHQUAKE

  • On Friday the 8th of September 1905 at 1:43am there was a major earthquake that occurred 112 years ago with a magnitude of 7.2 and the depth of 15km. This earthquake took place in Calabria in Italy, this earthquake caused much destruction to the city's and small towns. Many people perished because of this one incident. Many people were injured and a hand full were killed.

THE SCALE OF THE EARTHQUAKE

  • It is hard to measure the exact magnitude of the earthquake especially If the earthquake was either strong or mild. The closest magnitude of the earthquake is found by the Richter Scale. The Richter Scale works with a seismograph. A seismograph is a special graph that shows any slight movements or any major movements. On each seismograph it approximately shows the magnitude of the earthquake.

HOW DO PEOPLE SURVIVE

PREPARATION , AND SAFETY FOR EARTHQUAKES

EARTHQUAKE PREPERATION

  • Back a century ago it would be difficult to understand how to prepare for an earthquake because they didn't have much understanding compared to all the information we have today. Three ways to be prepared and safety tips for an earthquake.
  • The first safety tip is to make sure you have a phone or a device with you at all time in case of emergency, secondly go to the closest and the room that you think is the safest, thirdly have a emergency kit with a torch water some food, bandaids and everything that is necessary.

EVENT CHAOS

  • During a earthquake it is absolute chaos, you don't know what is going on! The information that people gather either during a earthquake or before a earthquake is very little. However seismographs show the magnitude of the earthquakes and when it has happened. The news spreads fast about when, where and how the earthquake has occurred.

HOW WOULD I SURVIVE

  • During an earthquake I would use many techniques and safety tips to survive.
  • Firstly I would prepare and have a electronic device at all times and to make sure that you carry water on you and it would also be extremely safe If you carried a Minh safety box in your handbag that you can buy for $5.00.
  • Secondly if there was ever a earthquake when I was driving or sleeping I would either get up and go to the smallest room in the house which decreases the higher feeling of the earthquake. Or if I was in the car I would either stop the car jump out and go to an open area where there are no buildings, or I would drive home if close or shopping centre.

WHAT IA A GEOLOGICAL CHANGE?

  • A geological change is when plates are active and they either cause a tsunami, earthquake or volcanoes.
  • There are many volcanoes around the world and they can erupt anytime unless there not active anymore.
  • Tsunamis are caused by underwater earthquakes and last but not least earthquakes are caused by the plates.
