Speed Reading
Notes copied and pasted in Spreeder:

This is an example of a useful online app that I use called speeder. You just need to copy and paste any text into the app and it will flash it across the screen quickly. - It is amazing how quickly you can read when text is presented in this way and you can show it once, then ask the students to look for something then show it again to see how much they can recall. I have used it successfully as a starter activity. - The other e-learning tools that I wanted to share today are Any Meeting, Pinterest and LinkedIn. – Any Meeting is an online meeting space. I used it this year for revision sessions with my A Level students. You just set up an account for free, send them a link to it. They click the link at the allocated time then you can talk to them online either via a chat box or via a microphone (you can even use a webcam but I avoided that). You can easily share files and links with them and you can do quick polls to check their understanding. This was an easy way to help with revision in the evenings leading up to their exam as I was sat at home in my PJs doing it. - Pinterest is my favourite social media site. It is effectively an online notice board. You can set up a number of boards and you then pin images, infographics or web links to it. I have found lots of really good teaching and learning ideas. I have also found and shared relevant theory pins for my students and either printed them, or pointed them to the web address for that particular board. - LinkedIn is often used for networking in order to get new jobs. However I use it to share ideas via groups. I am a member of a group of business and economics teachers based in the UK. The online discussion board is very active and people often share really good ideas. I have also been able to ask for advice on there too and have been able to get professional recommendations on things like teaching resources and CPD courses. - All of these sites are available on any web bowser, or as a free App on the iPad or Android, so I use a combination of my phone, iPad and computer to access and use them.
