WHAT IS DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DISEASE?

  • Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a disease that makes your muscles degenerate.
  • It can cause skeletal deformities.
  • You can lose your ability to walk, and there is no cure.

HOW IS DMD PASSED DOWN

  • DMD is passed down from birth.
  • It is located on chromosome 21.2
  • It is an x-linked disease.

WHO IT EFFECTS

  • DMD effects 1 in every 3,500 boys.

SYMPTOMS

  • Learning difficulties
  • Fatigue
  • Skeletal deformities
  • Enlargement of calf muscles
  • Loss of ability to walk

TREATMENTS

  • There are medications
  • You can have surgery for your skeletal deformities.
  • There is no cure for DMD
