GEORGE WASHINGTON

1789-1797

JOHN ADAMS

1797-1801
John Adams served as Vice President under George Washington from 1789- 1797. Then in 1797 Adams was elected the 2nd president of the United States and served until 1801. One of the most memorable things that Adams did during his term as president was the XYZ Affair. When John Adams was elected one of his goals was to improve our relationship with France. To do this Adams sent diplomats to Paris and negotiate a treaty. But when they got their the French would not negotiate a treaty until they received a $250,000 bribe and a 12 million dollar loan.

THOMAS JEFFERSON

1801-1809

JAMES MADISON

1809-1817
James Madison was a politician practically his whole life he served in the House of Representative then later he was Secretary of State under 3rd President Thomas Jefferson then he ran for president and won making him the 4th president of the United States. During his presidency we ran into some problems with Great Britain. After the failure of protests and a trade embargo against Great Britain he led the nation into the War of 1812.

JAMES MONROE

1817-1825
James Monroe started off as the Governor of Virginia then became a diplomat in France and helped negotiate the Louisiana purchase and served as the Secretary of State and the secretary of war during the War of 1812. He then ran for president and became the 5th president of the United States. During his presidency James Monroe bought Florida from Spain and the established America's border along the 42nd parallel. Then he signed the Monroe doctrine which said that we opposed all European affairs.

JOHN QUINCY ADAMS

1825-1829
John Quincy Adams son of the second president of the United States John Adams was a diplomat, member of the House of Representatives, member of the senate and the 6th President of the United States. As a diplomat he negotiated international treaty's such as the Treaty of Ghent which ended The War of 1812. During his presidency Adams encouraged education and smoothened the issues over land in the North. John Adams lost the 1828 re-election to Andrew Jackson making Adams the first president to serve only one term after his father.

ANDREW JACKSON

1829-1837
Andrew Jackson was a politician and an army general in Tennessee. His most victorious and memorable victories were defeating the Creek Indians at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend and the British in the Battle at New Orleans. As president Andre Jackson was famous for removing Indians from the southwest and moving them west of the Mississippi River. He also signed the Indian Removal Act in the 1830's. His followers created the modern Democratic Party.
