  • While not a formal terrorist group they are categorized as one
  • They claim to be peaceful
  • While not as violent as other groups they are violent.

THE GROUPS FOCUS

  • Income equality
  • Reduce the influence of corporations in politics
  • Create more balanced distribution of wealth
  • More jobs, better quality jobs
  • Bank Reform
  • Forgiveness of student loan debt

CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR AT PROTESTS

  • Theft
  • Assault
  • Murder
  • Rape
  • Heavy drug use
  • Property crimes
  • Threats of bodily harm
  • Millions of dollars in property damage.

  • Based in the Pacific Northwest
  • Uses violence to promote their message
  • They are not a group or an organization
  • No governing body
  • No gatherings
  • No process to become a member
  • Anti abortion, race mixing, homosexuality, and interracial sex.

WHY PHINEAS

  • Israelite Phinehas
  • Numbers 25
  • Phinehas speared an Israelite man and Midianite woman while together in the mans tent
  • This ended a plague sent by God to punish the Israelites for mixing sexually and religiously with the Midianite Baal worshipers
  • Members cite this chapter as justification for their actions.

WHY A TERRORIST GROUP

  • Abortion clinic bombings
  • Newspaper bombing
  • Bank robberies
  • Plans to bomb an FBI building

Jewish Defense League

HISTORY

  • Founded in 1986 by Rabbi Meir Kahane in NYC
  • Started with racial tension between Jewish teachers union and black community who wanted to have more control of their schools.
  • 1970 focus switched to soviet Jews, who didn't want their "assistance"
  • Terrorized soviet establishments in the US to get the Soviet Union to change their ban on immigration to Israel.
  • President Nixon feared their actions would cause issue with treaty negotiations with the Soviet Union

VIOLENCE

  • They condemn other groups for violence but are violent themselves
  • Beat the leader of the National Socialist Party with steel pipes
  • Member mass murdered 29 Palestinian Muslims while they were kneeling in prayer in a mosque
  • Planned bomb attacks on Arab American congressman's office

  • FBI calls them the number one domestic terrorist group
  • Main tactics are fire
  • Use guerrilla warfare tactics to destroy targets
  • Ecoterrorism
  • Has caused millions of dollars in damages since inception

  • Underground militant group that only lasted 11 years.
  • Cell that broke off from the Black Panthers
  • Objective was to gain access to firearms to liberate blacks in the US
  • Short lived but very violent

  • Between 1970 and 1976 involved in over 70 acts of violence
  • Targeted police and killed 13 officers
  • July 31st 1972 hijacked a plane, diverted it to Algeria and collected 1 mil ransom. The random was confiscated but they fled.
  • Almost all members are currently in prison

KU KLUX KLAN

Southern Strong since 1865

HISTORY

  • Formed in 1865 when the civil war ended
  • Invisible Empire Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
  • Founded by confederate veterans who wanted to restore white supremacy
  • By 1870 extended into every state
  • Assassinated African American politicians, religious figures, and community leaders.

  • After a period of decline the Klan was revived in the early 20th century
  • Burning crosses, rallies, parades, and marches against immigrants, Catholics, Jews, blacks, and unions.
  • In the 1920s the group had an estimated 4 million members
  • Fragmented and joined Neo Nazi groups
  • Still active in the Deep South membership is estimated to be around 10,000
