does a plant grow best with powerade or water?

hypothesis

If you water a plant with Powerade, then it will grow better.

Experiment

We watered 7 marigold seeds w\ Powerade. We watered the others with water.

Materials

  • 2 bottles Powerade.
  • 1 packet marigold seeds. 
  • Potting soil.
  • 2 plastic cups.
  • Water.

procedure

  • Get 2 plastic cups.
  • Fill cup with one and a half cups soil.
  • Plant 7 marigold seeds 1 inch deep in soil.
  • Water with 90 mL of Powerade.
  • Put plant in indirect light.

Procedure continued

  • Repeat steps 1-3 twice.
  • In the next plant 40 mL of water in plant. Put plant in indirect.

Our Plants Grew...

qualitative data

  • Day 1: Powerade plant looked like it had mold  
  • Day 2: Water plant sprouted 2 plants and Powerade 0  
  • Day 3: Powerade plant smelled terrible
  • Day 4: Powerade plant is so full of Powerade that we had to stop watering .
  • Day 5: Our Powerade plant was so gross that we had to throw it away.

quanitative data

Our Powerade plant didn't grow at all. Our Water plant grew about 5 cm.

conclusion

  • We concluded that Powerade does NOT help a plant grow.
  • We also came to the conclusion that it is best to give a plant water.
  • Also, giving a plant 90 mL of Powerade is WAY too much Powerade.
  • In the end, we decided that it is best to just give a plant about 30 mL 
  • ...of water.
