Purpose of the digestive system
It takes out nutrients from food that you eat to keep your body going and then disposing of the waste.

FOODS AND THIER PURPOSES

  • Apple- gives healthy energy and protects against disease
  • Oranges- gives healthy energy and provides a good source of vitamin c
  • Bananas- healthy energy and good source of potassium

VITAMINS AND MINERALS

  • Vitamins- help your body function properly and protects the inside of your body from damage
  • Minerals- provides nourishment for the body and makes it stronger.

Mouth
The mouth produces saliva. Not only that it is the space where your digestive system begins.

Esophagus
Where peristalsis takes place. Peristalsis are muscle contractions that move food down your throat.

Stomach
This is where food goes to get broken down by acids in your stomach.

Liver and pancreas
While the liver main job is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, the pancreas exerts pancreatic juices to help food get absorbed into the system.

Small intestine
While food goes thru the small intestine, it has suction cup like features against the walls of it to take out nutrients.

Large intestine
This is where food that isn't used goes in the digestive system. The waste is place here by the small intestine and comes out the anus.

Questions
How does our body know what to do with all these things?
How does our mouth produce saliva?
How come we don't feel the muscle contractions in our throat during perstalsis?
