Major Functions

  • System is made of GI Track, liver, pancreas, and gall bladder.
  • All work together to digest food.
  • Broken down food is then used for nutrients, energy, and cell growth.
  • The body absorbs what it needs and the rest is passed out the body through whats called poop.

  • Small intestines coils surface area is about 2700 square feet.
  • Hydrochloric acid in stomach is strong enough to digest metal, but will never digest plastic.
  • Even if you stand on your head, the digestive system still works.
  • For every two gallons of food that passes through the large intestine only about 6 tablespoon actually comes out.
  • The average adult will consume 50 ton of food in a lfetime. Thats the weight of 50 cars.
