PRESENTATION OUTLINE

DIFFUSION AND OSMOSIS

BY JOSEPH MATTHEWS

DAY ONE

  • Color: yellow, soft and squishy
  • Mass: 78 grams
  • Mass of substance placed in: 265 milliliters

DAY 2

  • Appearance: still yellow, still squishy.
  • Mass: 74 grams
  • Mass of substance placed in: 250 milliliters

DAY 3

  • Appearance: yellow and less squishy
  • Mass: 71 grams
  • Mass of substance placed in: 230 grams

IODINE, STARCH IN TEST TUBE AND STARCH IN BAGGIE BEFORE

  • Iodine color: brown
  • Starch in test tube color: white
  • Starch in baggie color: white

IODINE, STARCH IN TEST TUBE, AND STARCH IN BAGGIE AFTER

  • Iodine color: wine-like color
  • Starch in test tube color: white
  • Starch in baggie color: very dark brown

Egg experiment conclusion:

This experiment was a demonstration of osmosis. The moisture-like materials passed through the permeable membrane of the egg which then affected the substance it was placed in, turning its color to a grayish color.

Permeability experiment conclusion:

The iodine in the beaker was able to pass through the Baggie because it was very permeable, while it couldn't pass through the test tube because it was not permeable. The color of the starch in the Baggie and the iodine in the beaker changed as well. The starch in the baggie's color turned from white to dark brown, while the iodine turned from brown to a wine-like green.
