PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Differentiated Instruction

Cristina V. Santos

Focus

Be intentional with instruction.
What entails differentiated instruction? Well, first, there should be several questions to answer, like, If, why, how, and what. In this illustrations it shows the IF as the performance- use the power of inquiry to stimulate the process of learning. Then Engage will ask they why? The learner will then engage in asking the reasons behind the information given. Practice will follow by learning by doing, how is it done, lastly is what was done answering all of the questions. Teacher students will do this with a simple lesson and teacher leaders will use this for action research, while administrators will use it to enhance professional learning communities.

Challenges

think of some that may hinder your instruction
what do you thing some challenges are in doing DI? Some that I have experienced is thinking outside of the box, getting lessons ready, making sure all students are engaged.

Advantages

think of some things you already do that work
What is working is getting the students engaged in fun learning real-world experiences.

Formula

so the ultimate formula is doing what you do best using your personal experiences and using your students' data to enhance the lessons. DI is not a strategy,it is what you do to get the information to stick. This applies to the leader. Professional learning communities are the perfect example to work on that lesson that you struggle with because two, three, four, heads are better than one. Everyone has different experiences and if we share, we learn, and in turn we teach. it is a win/win situation.

Learning Styles

Kinesthetic

Finally the learner is able to bring everything together and apply what they learn, making it an experience they will use later and not forget the concept itself.

Why DI?

So what is at the edge of the horizon? The aha moment where you see the learner see that light of knowledge and comprehension. As a leader,it is our responsibility to guide our teachers to look at all the aspects of the lesson in order to be effective teachers. As we lead our team, DI shows them the positive effects of DI that will bring back that spark we all have when we decide to become educators.
