PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The Cell as a School

Andrew Deieso & Maddy Dietz

CYTOPLASM

THE SCHOOL FLOOR AS IT HOLDS EVERYTHING IN THE SCHOOL ON IT
We chose this picture because the school floor holds everything in the school such as the students, desks, etc. on it, acting as the cytoplasm.

CELL MEMBRANE

ACTS AS THE DOORS ENCLOSING THE STUDENTS IN SCHOOL
We chose this picture because it keeps the students inside and allows them to flow in and out while simultaneously protecting them.

RIBOSOMES

ACTS AS THE LUNCH LADY
We chose this picture because the ribosomes produce proteins, just as the lunch ladies in the cafeteria hand out and produce our food which contains protein.

NUCLEUS

ACTS AS THE PRINCIPALS OFFICE
We chose this picture because the principal directs all activities and things that happen within the school, just as the nucleus directs the activities in the cell.

MITOCHONDRIA

ACTS AS THE CAFETERIA FOOD
We chose this picture because the mitochondria supplies energy throughout the cell, just as food gives the students energy.

NUCLEOLUS

ACTS AS THE TEACHER
We chose this picture because the teacher directs the students, just as the nucleolus directs the assembly of proteins in assistance with the nucleus, just as teachers work with the principal.

CELL WALL

ACTS AS THE GATE SURROUNDING THE SCHOOL
We chose this picture because the cell wall protects and contains everything within the cell (school).

SMOOTH ER

ACTA AS THE STORAGE CLOSETS
We chose this picture because the smooth ER stores enzymes that perform specialized tasks, just as the supplies in the storage closet are each designated for their own specific purposes.

ROUGH ER

ACTS AS THE DEAN
We chose this picture because the Deans will kick students out just as the Rough ER sends vesicles out to the Golgi Apparatus.

GOLGI APPARATUS

ACTS AS THE SCHOOL BUS
We chose this picture because the school bus sends students home just as the Golgi Apparatus releases proteins outside of the cell.

LYSOSOMES

ACTS AS THE JANITOR
We chose this picture because the janitor cleans up messes made just as lysosomes break down cell waste.

VESICLES

ACTS AS THE ELEVATORS
We chose this picture because just as the elevator transports students, vesicles store and move materials between cell organelles.

CENTRAL VACUOLE

ACTS AS THE WATER FOUNTAIN
We chose this picture because the vending machine contains and stores water and food just as the central vacuole stores water, salts, proteins, and carbohydrates.

CHLOROPLASTS

ACTS AS THE SOLAR PANELS
We chose this picture because the solar panels on a school take sunlight and convert it into electricity and energy just as the chloroplasts take sunlight and turn it into usable energy.

FLAGELLA

ACTS AS THE FLIPPERS SWIMMER WEAR
We chose this picture because flippers allow a swimmer to move quickly thought liquid just as the flagella enables to cells to swim rapidly through liquid.

CYTOSKELETON

ACTS AS WALLS, SUPPORT BEAMS, ETC.
We chose this picture because the walls and beams of a school allow it to maintain its shape and supports it just as the cytoskeleton supports and maintains the shape of a cell.
