PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The Devonian time Period
Paleozoic Era
Age Of The Fishes
By Sierra, Jordan & Tanner
The new life burgeoning on land apparently escaped the worst effects of the mass extinction that ended the Devonian. The main victims were marine creatures, with up to 70 percent of species wiped out. Reef-building communities almost completely disappeared.
Theories put forward to explain this extinction include global cooling due to the re-glaciation of Gondwana, or reduced atmospheric levels of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide because of the foresting of the continents. A major asteroid impact has also been suggested.
Climate
Changed from the warm and mild climate. The Devonians climate was even warmer than the Silurian period. The climate changed the type of animals that lived there.
Archaepteris
Archaepteris was a genus of plants that was probably the first true tree to form forests
Dunkleosteous
Dunkelosteus belongs to the Placodermi, a family of armour-plated fishes. Dunkelosteus was probably the largest member of this family.
Lycopsids
Lycopsids are the oldest group of living vascular plants. Some of their extinct members were major players in the expansion of plants onto the land.
Osteolepis
The osteolepis was 75 mm long, it was alive in the middle Devonian time period.
Earth was Like
The ground was full of red sandstone. North America & Europe had collided forming a large continent.
